When we send email to the recipient(s) using Outlook, you may not remember the full email address (e.g. chiling@eduhk.hk). You could browse the Global Address Book/Contacts which could be quite tedious as the list is only sorted by surname. Assuming you only know part of the name (e.g. Joanne or Chi Ling) of the recipient, the quickest way to tell Outlook where to send the email to is to do wildcard search with part of the name and ask Outlook to check against the Global Address Book/Contacts for users with their name containing the string of text. Then you could pick from this shorter list easily.

Procedures to do wildcard search:

  • Create a new mail.
  • Type in the text you want to search for in the To, CC or BCC field. (e.g. joanne in this example)
  • Press Ctrl + K or click on the Check Names icon.
  • Then a list of matched case will show in a window. You can choose from the list and click OK to add the contact in the new mail.
