EdUHK to Commence Global Search for the Next President

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) will conduct a global search after incumbent President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung has notified the Council that he will not seek reappointment upon the completion of his current term on 31 August 2023.

In his message to the University community, Professor Cheung said, “It is my privilege to have worked with the council members, colleagues, students, alumni and supporters at different stages in making EdUHK what it is today. We together celebrated the birth of EdUHK in 2016, after weathering challenges, one after another, along the way. Since retitling, we have expanded our academic disciplines and strengthened our research capacity in line with our 'Education-plus' approach, while fulfilling our unique role as the bastion of teacher education. All these achievements and breakthroughs could not have been possible without your participation and support.”

Council Chairman Dr Wong Yau-kar thanked Professor Cheung for his exemplary leadership in the significant transformation and impressive growth of the then Institute and the University. He said, “Under Professor Cheung’s stewardship, the University has made great strides on many fronts, including academic development, research and knowledge transfer, university management, and campus infrastructure. With the solid foundation laid over the years, I have every confidence that we are well placed to move towards our goal of becoming a leading research-active, education-focused university in Hong Kong and the region, making greater impact on the education sector and the community at large.”
