EdUHK Holds 7th STEGRAMS Programme Awards Ceremony Recognising Outstanding Contributions to Sustainability Education

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted the 7th ESDGC STEGRAMS Dissemination cum Awards Ceremony on its Tai Po campus on 19 July. Organised by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, the event showcased the latest achievements in sustainability education and honoured outstanding teachers and students, highlighting EdUHK’s commitment to nurturing future education leaders.

Launched six years ago Dr Margaret Ng Cheuk-wing, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at EdUHK, the STEGRAMS Programme is the first Central Reserve Allocation Committee-initiated Education for SDG Scheme in Hong Kong. The programme brings together teachers and students from diverse institutions, disciplines, and grade levels, fostering interdisciplinary learning to develop students' educational entrepreneurship, collaborative skills, and global perspectives.

This year, the programme achieved remarkable success, with seven participating schools from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, and Malmö of Sweden developing over six specialised hubs, which are STEM HUB, BOOK HUB, TALK HUB, ART HUB, SERVICE HUB, and GAME HUB. These hubs integrate cross-curricular elements, allowing students to explore different roles and develop critical thinking skills. The programme also strengthens collaboration between EdUHK and partner schools, creating an ecosystem for sustainable education innovation and interdisciplinary teaching resources.

Dr Ng emphasised the programme's unique "educational entrepreneurship" approach: "We not only impart knowledge but also encourage students to turn their ideas into tangible educational projects. This year, we witnessed students successfully develop ocean conservation-themed board game and create ocean conservation-related videos using AI technology, which fully reflect our vision."

The ceremony also featured a keynote speech by the Professor Yan Zi, Head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at EdUHK, on "Cultivating Future Leaders: Embracing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship," sharing the latest research in sustainability education. Educators from different institutions further discussed topics such as curriculum design, teacher training, and community engagement, fostering professional exchange.

The event not only recognised outstanding teachers and students but also marked a significant milestone in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a pioneer in teacher education, EdUHK remains committed to promoting sustainability education and looks forward to collaborating with stakeholders to build a sustainable future, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities and nurturing the next generation of education leaders.
