Fusion of Entertainment and Sport

Ms Tamara Moore

Ms Tamara Moore, Director of Live Entertainment & Retail Marketing of the Memphis Grizzlies, an NBA team, was invited by the Department of Health and Physical Education to share her management experience with students in the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management programme via Zoom on 13 October 2020.

Ms Moore worked for the NBA and an NBA team for over 20 years. Formerly choreographer and entertainment team manager of the Grizzlies and NBA, she is now responsible for producing in-game content and overseeing development and content for entertainment assets for the Grizzlies.

In her guest lecture on “Live Entertainment in the Sports Field”, Ms Moore started by sharing her story on how she began working in the NBA and subsequently at the team level for the Memphis Grizzlies as the choreographer of the Grizz Girls (the cheerleading team of Memphis Grizzlies) and then in her current position, as well as serving as in-arena emcee.

The student participants gained insights into the entertainment aspects of professional sport. Ms Moore guided them through all the entertainment elements, including the Grizzlies’ live performance teams – Super Grizz, the Grizz, Grizz Girls, Clam Crew, Grizzline, Grizzlies Grannies & Grandpas, Kings of The Court and the Blue Bunch. She concluded the lecture by advising the students to use the network they build throughout their lives, not to be afraid to try new things, to keep an open heart and mind, to focus on their passion, to invest in themselves, and not to hesitate to ask for help.
