In Memoriam: Honorary Doctor Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) records with deep sorrow the passing of Honorary Doctor and global spiritual leader, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, on 22 January 2022.

EdUHK and its predecessor have a special connection with Master Nhat Hanh. During several teaching trips to Hong Kong to promote mindfulness and peace, Master Nhat Hanh held retreats and walking meditations designed for educators, parents and students, on the University’s campus, in 2007, 2010 and 2013.

The partnership of the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education at EdUHK with the educational unit of Plum Village Foundation Hong Kong (nowadays known as the Plum Village Mindfulness Academy), has resulted in regular ‘Day of Mindfulness’ programmes, serving educational professionals, school administrators, parents and students of all backgrounds.

Master Nhat Hanh dedicated his entire life to campaigning for peace, and advocating mindfulness, ‘interbeing’ and spiritual values. His contribution to the promotion of education, religion and humanitarianism have also been widely acknowledged around the globe. Master Nhat Hanh will be deeply remembered for his thoughtful voice, inspirational writings and everlasting legacy.
