EdUHK and Peking University Launch Collaborative Exchange on AI in Education

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) welcomed a delegation from Peking University (PKU) between 23 and 27 June for a five-day academic exchange. The visit aimed at deepening collaboration and research between the two universities in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation of education.

This delegation was led by Professor Jia Jiyou, Head of the Department of Educational Technology at the Graduate School of Education (GSE) and Director of the International Research Centre for Education and Information at PKU. The delegation consisted of faculty and student representatives from various PKU departments and centres, including GSE, School of Information Science and Technology, School of Foreign Languages, Academy for Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, Centre for Excellent Teaching and Learning, Graduate School, Computing Centre, Department of History and The Affiliated High School of Peking University (Shenzhen).

During the visit, the PKU delegation collaborated with the Global Institute for Emerging Technologies (GIET) Equity Team at EdUHK, UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE), and the Institute of Education (IOE) at University College London (UCL), to organise the fourth forum of the Learning Innovations and Emerging Technologies Forum Series.

The forum, themed ‘Rethinking the Role of Emerging Technologies in Education’, focused on the potential of emerging technologies and their transformative impact on education. It attracted over 300 teachers, scholars, education leaders, industry partners, and policymakers from 21 countries and regions worldwide. The four keynote presentations showcased the latest research and practices from PKU and UCL on the application of innovative technologies in education, covering topics such as federated identity in higher education, learner preference analysis, teaching-led technology innovations, and technology-empowered subject learning.

In her welcome address, Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Academic) of EdUHK, said, “Emerging technologies have undoubtedly transformed education in profound ways. However, their integration into the learning ecosystem presents a complex and dynamic challenge. At EdUHK, we are committed to leveraging emerging technologies to reshape the educational landscape. Our goal is to harness their potential to enhance learning experiences and promote innovative teaching practices that prepare our students for the future.”

The PKU and EdUHK teams also hosted a Mandarin-language Masterclass entitled ‘Emerging Technologies for Empowering Research and Learning: Insights from Peking University’. This session featured five PKU experts who made presentations on topics such as digital transformation in education, teacher professional development, and the application of AI in teaching and research. Their insights sparked deep reflections among participants on the integration of technology into education.

Additionally, nine PKU students presented their cutting-edge research in the field of AI in education, facilitating intellectual exchanges with EdUHK faculty members and students.

PKU’s visit strengthened the collaborative relationship with EdUHK and demonstrated the shared commitment to promoting educational equity and innovation while advancing the integration of technology into education.

This visit is supported by the 2025 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao University Exchange Programme from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, “Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange on Digital and Intelligent Transformation of Education.”
