EdUHK Establishes Sik Sik Yuen Scholarships to Nurture Outstanding Talents

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has received a generous donation of HK$2.5 million from Sik Sik Yuen to nurture outstanding talent at EdUHK. EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar and President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin received the cheque at a donation ceremony held today (26 March) .

 

Establishing four scholarships, the Sik Sik Yuen Entrance Scholarship, Sik Sik Yuen Field Experience Scholarship, Sik Sik Yuen Student Exchange Scholarship and Sik Sik Yuen Language Immersion Scholarship, the donation aims to attract outstanding students to study at EdUHK, while providing them with support for their holistic development. These scholarships also hope to broaden their horizons and foster diverse perspectives, nurturing talent for contributions to the country and society.

 

Dr Wong said, “The guiding principle of Sik Sik Yuen – To act benevolently and to teach benevolence – coincides with EdUHK’s dedication to emphasising the importance of nurturing talent while cultivating virtue. We will join hands with Sik Sik Yuen to preserve these invaluable treasures, fulfil the core mission of teacher education, and contribute to the development of education in Hong Kong.”

 

Mr Lai Chak-sum, Chairman of Sik Sik Yuen said, “We are delighted to witness the establishment of the Sik Sik Yuen Scholarships. Since the opening of our first school in 1969, we have been committed to providing excellent educational services. We hope that the scholarships will encourage the learning efforts of the EdUHK's students and nurture outstanding talents.”

 

Professor Lee expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Sik Sik Yuen. He said, “Sik Sik Yuen supports the EdUHK Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education’s development while promoting traditional Chinese moral concepts and ethical perspectives. We hope the newly established scholarship will further broaden students' horizons and experiences, nurturing their positive values and diverse development, and also showcase the core values of Education Talent Virtue.”
