Hong Kong 2023 Humanities Conference on Comparative Cultures of Care

The International Research Centre for Cultural Studies held the ‘Hong Kong 2023 Humanities Conference on Comparative Cultures of Care’, on 2 and 3 November 2023.  Vice Presidents Professor May Cheng May-hung and Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin welcomed the participants. The conference’s objectives were to help establish a supportive community for scholars and set out plans to publish two special journal issues based on the conference papers.

Sixteen scholars from Canada, UK, US, Australia, and Hong Kong presented original research on three conference themes: Theory, Culture, Care; Environment, Technology, Care; and Care, Pedagogy, Community.

The “Comparative Cultures of Care” project is a strategic research focus for the Faculty of Humanities. The conference stems from an eight-month-long online reading course on “Theorising Care” that began in early 2023, and endeavours to extend consolidated discussion on care ethics and politics.
