Re-appointment of EdUHK President
The Council of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) unanimously approved today (30 June) the re-appointment of Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung as its President for another five-year term, effective 1 September 2018.
The decision was made after thorough discussions of the recommendation made by an ad hoc committee set up by the Council in March with reference made to comments and views consolidated during an extensive consultation exercise within the University community.
In announcing Professor Cheung re-appointment, EdUHK’s Council Chairman Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang said Professor Cheung had made remarkable achievements in leading the University forward, especially the successful bid for the U-title.
“Under his astute stewardship, the then Institute and now EdUHK has scaled new heights on all fronts, with significant advancements made in its local, regional and international standings, as reflected in our university subject rankings, extensive collaboration networks with leading universities and international organisations as well as our research impact on the school sector and the community,” said Professor Ma.
In response, Professor Cheung said, “It is my greatest pleasure and honour to be the EdUHK President for another five years. Thanks to the concerted efforts of the University community, we have together weathered challenges and achieved milestones one after the other. Looking ahead, I believe EdUHK will continue to play a distinct role in leading education innovation and promoting the strategic development of teacher education in Hong Kong,” Professor Cheung added.
