Professional Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers in Jiangsu

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a commencement ceremony on 28 November for the Professional Enhancement Programme for Kindergarten Teachers in Jiangsu. More than 20 early childhood educators attended the ceremony.

Sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the programme is organised by the Department of Education Policy and Leadership (EPL) at EdUHK. Through a week’s intensive learning activities including presentations, seminars and kindergarten visits, mainland experts and kindergarten teachers will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of local early childhood education policy, leadership, management and development.

The programme will also encourage participants to compare the two places, which in turn will stimulate their thinking on teaching and management strategies in both the mainland and Hong Kong. Participants will ultimately be able to critically reflect on the sustainable development of early childhood education and strengthen their kindergarten teaching.

Officiating at the commencement ceremony were Professor Ng Shun Wing, Head of EPL at EdUHK; Ms Jessica Li, Executive Officer of the Tin Ka Ping Foundation; and Mr Bu Jinkun, Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Education Foundation. Addressing the ceremony, Professor Ng said he believed “that the professional knowledge and experience sharing by EdUHK professionals and partners will inspire the participants”. Ms Li commented that “Tin Ka Ping Foundation and EPL at EdUHK have all along been organising a number of professional training programmes, and we hope efforts of this kind will continue for the purpose of enhancing education quality as well as promoting the mission of the Foundation”.

In the coming week, various experts and scholars from EdUHK will share their insights into early childhood education policy and implementation in Hong Kong, the leadership and development of local kindergartens, as well as creative education.

The programme will also include visits to three kindergartens, including The EdUHK Early Childhood Learning Centre, Fanling Assemblies of God Kindergarten and Holy Trinity Centre Kindergarten. Each kindergarten will hold thematic activities, such as organisational briefs, class observations, school tours and discussions.
