Miss Du Yuji and Dr Li Zhen from CHL Receive the Richard Pemberton Prize

Miss Du Yuji, a PhD candidate in the Department of Chinese Language Studies, and her supervisor Dr Zhen Li, were honoured with the prestigious Richard Pemberton Prize for Best Postgraduate Paper for their co-authored paper titled ‘The ethical dimension of cross-cultural teacher identity: A narrative inquiry of Chinese-as-a-foreign-language teachers in Italy’ at the 58th Annual Conference of the British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL) held from 4 to 6 September 2025, at the University of Glasgow, UK.

‘Cross-Cultural Amazing-Talker Language Exchange in GBA’ Proves Huge Success

A vibrant 2-day language and cultural exchange tour, titled ‘Cross-Cultural Amazing-Talker Language Exchange in GBA’, was organised under the UGC ‘Funding Scheme for Mainland and Global Engagement and Student Learning Experience’ from 27 to 28 September 2025. The event was led by the English and Putonghua teams from the Centre for Language in Education (CLE). This innovative programme brought together students from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and The Dongguan University of Technology (DGUT) for an immersive cultural and language learning experience in the vibrant Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

EdUHK Hosts Landmark 23rd AsiaTEFL International Conference

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) successfully hosted the 23rd AsiaTEFL International Conference from 10 to 13 July 2025 on its Tai Po campus. Under the theme ‘Care, Innovation, and Sustainability in ELT’, the event marked the first time the prestigious conference was held in the Hong Kong SAR, China in its 23-year history, attracting over 1,000 students, professionals, researchers, and policymakers from 43 regions.

Meet the Authors 2025: Life’s Palette – Writing Joyful Moments

On 16 November 2025, Dr Choy Yat-ling Elaine, Senior Lecturer II in the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies at The Education University of Hong Kong, delivered an engaging and insightful talk at Tiu Keng Leng Public Library as part of the Hong Kong Public Libraries’ ‘Meet the Authors 2025’ series. Titled ‘Life’s Palette: Writing Joyful Moments’, the free Cantonese session drew a full audience of readers, parents, educators, and writing enthusiasts.

Writing+ Live and in Person Literary Camp 2024-25

“When life feels weary, replenish it with community and imagination.” The Faculty of Humanities (FHM) and the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies (LCS) hosted the ‘Writing+’ Live and In-Person Literary Camp 2024-25 from 14 to 20 July 2025. Twenty-three students aspiring to pursue literary creation participated in the camp.

A talk on Dream of the Red Chamber at the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies

On 18 October 2025, Dr Cheung Kwai-king delivered a lecture titled ‘Traces of Hong Lou Meng in Cantopop’ as part of the ‘Chengming Seminar on Humanities’, co-organised by the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and the Chengming Academic Society. Prof Chen Liangliang, Assistant Professor at The University of Hong Kong, served as the guest host.

Engagement of Visiting Professor Pascual Pérez-Paredes in LML

The Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML) is honoured to appoint Prof Pascual Pérez-Paredes as a Visiting Professor from August 2025 to June 2026. Prof Pérez-Paredes specialises in corpus linguistics methods in applied linguistics, corpora and digital resources in language education, learner language variation, and corpus-assisted discourse analysis.

New Publication: The Routledge Handbook of Translating and Interpreting Conflict

The Routledge Handbook of Translating and Interpreting Conflict, co-edited by Dr Marija Todorova from the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies at EdUHK and Dr Lucía Ruiz Rosendo from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, has been published.

CRCLE Actively Advances Chinese Language and Values Education in Hong Kong Primary Schools

The Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE) at The Education University of Hong Kong has been making significant strides in one of its core research areas: promoting Chinese language education in local schools, with a particular focus on integrating values education into curriculum development. Since June 2024, through the Quality Education Fund project titled ‘From Language Learning to Nurture of Positive Values: Learning Classical Chinese through Multiple-Text Reading’, CRCLE has implemented an innovative teaching initiative across 16 primary schools in Hong Kong. This pioneering project successfully merges Chinese language instruction with values education by revitalising school-based classical Chinese curricula, an approach that has garnered enthusiastic responses from both educators and students.

CRLLS Organises ‘Hong Kong Indigenous Languages and Culture Lecture Series’ in Collaboration with HKILang

In 2025, the CRLLS collaborated with the Association for Conservation of Hong Kong Indigenous Languages (HKILang) to organise the ‘Hong Kong Indigenous Languages and Culture Lecture Series’. The series attracted over 260 participants through in-person and online formats, successfully fostering a deeper appreciation for Hong Kong’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage. This initiative aligns with the Centre’s core vision of promoting cultural sustainability through rigorous research and active community engagement.

EdUHK Eco-community Tour and Pottery Workshop: Reimagining Our Shared Ecology

Through the Sustainable Humanities (SUSHUM) Project, the International Research Centre for Cultural Studies (IRCCS) organised a series of three guided tours and a pottery workshop in November 2025 under the theme ‘Reimagining EdUHK: The Eco-community Tour’ (「較大教大想像：生態社區導賞團」).
