On 18 October 2025, Dr Cheung Kwai-king delivered a lecture titled ‘Traces of Hong Lou Meng in Cantopop’ as part of the ‘Chengming Seminar on Humanities’, co-organised by the New Asia Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and the Chengming Academic Society. Prof Chen Liangliang, Assistant Professor at The University of Hong Kong, served as the guest host.
The event traced the evolution of Dream of the Red Chamber themes in Hong Kong’s Cantonese pop music, offering close readings of iconic songs and exploring how various lyricists have drawn on this classical novel to express contemporary sentiments.
The lecture attracted local cultural enthusiasts and students from the MACSLE programme, sparking lively discussion and further highlighting the enduring vitality of Dream of the Red Chamber within Hong Kong’s cultural landscape.

Embracing Trans-disciplinarity in the 2nd International Forum for Emerging Scholars in Humanities
The 2nd International Forum for Emerging Scholars in Humanities, hosted by The Education University of Hong Kong and co-organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and Université Paris Cité, was successfully held on 23 October 2025. Through intensive presentations and peer feedback, the forum aimed to strengthen emerging scholars’ research skills, foster a network of mutual support among young academics, and cultivate future directions for academic collaboration.
