Organised by the Research Centre for Chinese Literature and Literary Culture (RCCLLC) and sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the ‘Hong Kong Popular Literature and Culture Conference’ was successfully held on 18 August 2025, drawing enthusiastic participation from scholars, speakers, and attendees.
The conference featured Prof Yung Sai-shing from the National University of Singapore and Prof Wong Suk-han Mary from Lingnan University as keynote speakers. Their deep academic insights opened up diverse avenues of discussion and added significant highlights to the event.
The panels covered a wide range of topics, including ‘thirty-cent novels’, wuxia literature, popular song lyrics, and animation, comics, and games, demonstrating the rich connections between Hong Kong literature and popular culture. More than 30 papers were presented, spanning textual analysis, cultural transmission, and multi‑media studies. These contributions broadened the perspectives of local literary research and fostered exchanges between emerging and established scholars. The conference aims to continue building platforms that promote dialogue and development of Hong Kong popular literature studies within the international academic community.
