Engagement of Visiting Professor Pascual Pérez-Paredes in LML

The Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML) is honoured to appoint Prof Pascual Pérez-Paredes as a Visiting Professor from August 2025 to June 2026. Prof Pérez-Paredes specialises in corpus linguistics methods in applied linguistics, corpora and digital resources in language education, learner language variation, and corpus-assisted discourse analysis.
During his visit, Prof Pérez-Paredes has been actively engaged in a range of research and teaching initiatives within LML. His contributions include reviewing GRF proposals, offering consultation sessions for colleagues and research postgraduate students, collaborating with Prof Ma Qing Angel on joint publications and an editorial series, and co-designing a new course on corpus linguistics. He also delivered a keynote speech at the 2025 CLE Conference on Teaching and Learning at SUSTech in Shenzhen and co-hosted an online event titled ‘Corpus Linguistics and Applied Linguistics Research’ with Prof Ma.
As part of his activities, Prof Pérez-Paredes delivered a hybrid seminar titled ‘AI in Language Education: The Evidence So Far’ on 11 November 2025. Jointly organised by LML and the Global Research Institute for Finnish, European, and Global South Education, the seminar attracted a broad audience of colleagues, researchers, and students. In his presentation, he provided a critical overview of emerging empirical and theoretical evidence on the use of artificial intelligence in language education, highlighting ethical and epistemological implications and emphasising the need for disciplinarily grounded AI literacies.

Embracing Trans-disciplinarity in the 2nd International Forum for Emerging Scholars in Humanities
The 2nd International Forum for Emerging Scholars in Humanities, hosted by The Education University of Hong Kong and co-organised by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and Université Paris Cité, was successfully held on 23 October 2025. Through intensive presentations and peer feedback, the forum aimed to strengthen emerging scholars’ research skills, foster a network of mutual support among young academics, and cultivate future directions for academic collaboration.
