General Requirement

•  A Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university; or a Bachelor's degree with first class honours (or equivalent qualification) from a recognised university.

English Language Requirements

• Applicants with a Bachelor's or Master's degree at a university where the programme was not taught and assessed in English are normally required to demonstrate competency through one of the following minimum requirements:

1. Overall score of IELTS 6.5 (academic module) with no subtest lower than 6.0^#; or
2. TOEFL score of 80 (internet-based test); or
3. Other equivalent qualifications.^

(The result of IELTS/TOFEL provided should be within two years.)

*Individual field of study such as English language may have higher requirement.
#Applicable to 2016/17 cohort and onwards.

^The College English Test (CET) is not accepted as equivalent qualification.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for 2025/26 academic year is HK$44,500/annum for UGC-funded students and HK$89,000/annum for self-financed students, which is provisional and subject to adjustment. The application fee for local applicants is HK$150 per programme. For non-local applicants, the application fee is HK$300. Please refer to the Section of "Non-local Applicants" for details.

Research Postgraduate Studentship (UGC-funded Research Postgraduate (RPg) Programmes)

• The monthly stipend for the 2024-25 academic year is HK$18,360 (approximately US$2,350) for all MPhil and PhD students and HK$18,870 (approximately US$2,420) for post-candidacy PhD students.
