Objectives:
- To foster in-depth research collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and expertise with overseas/non-local partners (including mainland/GBA partners);
- To strengthen the networking with overseas/non-local universities;
- To raise the professional profile and reputation of academic staff in the Faculty; and
- To provide an opportunity for academic staff to engage in research activities in a different cultural and academic environment.
Provision of the Award:
- The Award will provide FHM academic staff with the opportunity to spend up to two weeks (or 13 nights) visiting their collaboration partner at an overseas/non-local reputable university/organisation.
- Reciprocally, the Award will also provide the overseas/non-local partner with the opportunity to spend up to two weeks visiting FHM.
- The academic staff and their overseas/non-local partner will be expected to engage in planned research activities during their exchange period.
- The Award will provide financial support to the FHM academic staff and their overseas/non-local collaboration partner for eligible expenses incurred during the academic exchange. The proposed visit by the FHM academic staff will be classified as an “Other Trip Outside Hong Kong”, with reimbursement made on an actual-expenses basis, subject to the approved budget and the prevailing University guidelines. Original receipts must be retained for reimbursement purposes.
- Successful applicants are required to submit the FO/P33 Application for Trip Outside Hong Kong through the proper approval channels at least one month before the commencement of the research trip and obtain the necessary approval before undertaking the trip.
- The FHM academic staff will be required to submit an Initial Report within three months after completion of the two academic visits, reporting on the activities undertaken, progress against the approved objectives and outcomes/deliverables, and follow-up actions. A Follow-up Report must be submitted within six months after completion of the academic exchange and the research collaboration, together with relevant documentary evidence demonstrating the progress or completion of the approved outcomes/deliverables.
Eligibility:
The Award is open to all full-time UGC-funded academic staff members with at least 24 months of full-time working experience at FHM at the time of application.
Selection Criteria and Procedure :
- Applications will be considered based on factors including the significance and relevance of the proposed research collaboration activities; the academic merit and professional achievements of the collaboration partner, with preference given to new collaboration partners; the reputation and international standing of the partner institution/organisation, with priority given to collaborations involving highly ranked or internationally renowned universities/institutions; University/Faculty/Departmental needs; the potential impact of the collaboration; and the significance of the expected outcomes/deliverables.
- Particular emphasis will be placed on concrete and measurable research deliverables, including joint grant applications, joint publications, joint research projects and the recruitment or admission of PhD students arising from the collaboration.
- A call for applications will be made once in every academic year.
Applicants should submit the completed Application Form, together with all required supporting documents, to the Faculty Office through the Head of Department by the stipulated deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
- Applications will be considered by the Faculty Selection Panel, which will make recommendations to the Faculty Dean as the final approving authority.
- In general, up to 10 awards may be granted in each academic year, subject to funding availability.
