Professor Chetwyn Chan Appointed EdUHK Vice President (Research and Development)

The Council of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) approved today (18 December) the appointment of Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin as the University’s Vice President (Research and Development) with effect from 1 July 2021.


An accomplished scholar and researcher, Professor Chan is currently Associate Vice President (Learning and Teaching) and Chair Professor of Rehabilitation Sciences of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He is also Director of the University Research Facility in Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience at PolyU.


Professor Chan obtained a PhD in Educational Psychology in 1995 from University of Alberta, Canada. Prior to his current role, he was Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences (2005 to 2010) and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences (2008 to 2011) at PolyU. Over the years, Professor Chan has published more than 190 full research papers and secured about $50 million in research and consultancy grants. He was elected Fellow of the American Psychological Association and Fellow of the Hong Kong Psychological Society.


He is Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Social Work Training and Manpower Planning of Labour and Welfare Bureau, Member of the Quality Assurance Council of the University Grants Committee, and Vice Chairman of the executive committee of The Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation. Previously, he was Member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications.


EdUHK Council Chairman Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang said, “We are delighted to have Professor Chan on board. With his impressive research background and high calibre in higher education, I am sure he will further extend the reach and increase the impact of the University’s research and knowledge transfer, in line with our core mission”.


EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung said, “Given his track record in learning, teaching and research, I have every confidence that Professor Chan will help synergise and strengthen the University’s expertise in education and complementary disciplines for the benefit of the school sector and the community”.


Professor Cheung also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to incumbent Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Lui Tai-lok for his outstanding contributions during his tenure. Professor Lui will focus on his academic pursuits as Chair Professor of Hong Kong Studies after stepping down from his Vice President role.
