EdUHK and UAEU Deepen Collaboration Hold Joint International Symposium
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) welcomed a delegation from the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) to the Tai Po Campus on 24 April. Building on a high level meeting between the two universities in Dubai in February, the visit further strengthened their strategic partnership through in depth discussions and a Joint International Symposium.
The UAEU delegation was led by Professor Ahmed Ali Al Raeesi, Vice Chancellor; Professor Naeema Al Hosani, Director of the Environment Desert Research Center; Dr Saeed Al Dahmani, Vice Dean of the College of Business and Economics; Dr Latifa Alketbi, Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, College of Education; Dr Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Dean for Students Affairs, College of Education; Dr Lemya Alhmoudi, Head of the Department of Special and Gifted Education, College of Education; Professor Omar Hujran, Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at the College of Business and Economics; Dr Afra Al Nuaimi, Assistant Professor at the College of Business and Economics; and Mr Mohammed Al Obeidli, Logistics Support Executive, University Outreach Department.
The EdUHK representatives were led by President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, joined by Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Assistant Vice President (Research) Professor Michelle Gu Mingyue, Professor Lam Chak-fu at the Academy for Educational Development and Innovation, and Dr Deng Wenjing, Acting Head of the Department of Science and Environmental Studies.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed progress since the February discussions in Dubai and explored collaboration in student mobility, joint supervision, curriculum development, and teacher training. The exchange laid a solid foundation for deeper and more systematic collaboration.
Following the meeting, the Joint International Symposium was convened, focusing on three themes: Artificial Intelligence and Education, Business Management, as well as Science and Environmental Studies. In his opening remarks, Professor Lee highlighted that the symposium as a new starting point for the partnership, with both universities ready to leverage their strengths for more impactful initiatives. Professor Al Raeesi noted that, coinciding with UAEU's 50th anniversary, the partnership has reached an opportunity for deeper engagement, and both universities will embark on a new chapter together.
Scholars from both universities shared their latest research and academic achievements, enhancing mutual understanding and identifying directions for future collaboration initially. The symposium showcased the complementary strengths of the two institutions, paving the way for resource integration and reaffirming their commitment to advancing international academic cooperation.
Since the establishment of the partnership in 2020, EdUHK and UAEU have launched dual-degree programmes, established a joint research fund, and promoted of student and faculty exchanges. Building on the outcomes of this symposium, the two universities will continue to integrate academic resources and professional expertise, jointly driving innovation in regional higher education.
