The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is delighted to announce that elite-athlete student Lee Sze-wing captured gold in the Women’s Omnium Track Cycling at the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China (National Games) today (17 November). This marks the fifth gold medal won by EdUHK students at this year’s National Games, setting a new record for the University’s best-ever performance.
The Omnium consists of four rounds: Scratch Race, Tempo Race, Elimination Race, and Points Race. Throughout the competition, Lee demonstrated composure, endurance, resilience and explosive power, ultimately securing the gold medal with a total score of 124 points. This marks her third gold medal at the Games, following victories in the Women’s Road Race and yesterday’s Women’s Madison Track Cycling alongside teammate Leung Wing-yee.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin expressed his heartfelt congratulations, stating, “Lee has delivered phenomenal performances over recent days, competing tirelessly against her opponents and exemplifying the true spirit of athleticism. Her exceptional achievements, together with the gold medals won by EdUHK students at this year’s National Games, undoubtedly inspire greater motivation and confidence within the EdUHK community.”
EdUHK students have achieved gold medals in other events at the National Games. These include Cado Lee Ka-to, a student of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management programme, who contributed to the success of the Hong Kong Men’s Rugby Sevens team. In addition, Wang Liuyi and Wang Qianyi, both Doctor of Education (Chinese) students at EdUHK, triumphed in the Women's Duet (Technical Routine and Free Routine) of artistic swimming.
