EdUHK Holds Flag-raising ceremony to celebrate 28th Anniversary of Establishment of HKSAR
In celebration of the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a National Flag-raising Ceremony on its Tai Po campus this morning (1 July).
The Ceremony was attended by Counsellor Wang Jian, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the HKSAR; Mr Xu Binshan, Director of the Liaison Department of the Office for Safeguarding National Security of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; EdUHK Council Chairman Dr David Wong Yau-kar; Deputy Council Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah; President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, together with other Council members, University senior management, staff, students, alumni, as well as students and parents from EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School and EdUHK Early Childhood Learning Centre. Home Affair Department (Tai Po District Office) Senior Liaison Officer Ms Queenie Wong and Tai Po North District Council Member Mr Hu Cheuk-him also attended the ceremony.During the ceremony, the national, regional and university flags were raised by the EdUHK Student Flag-raising Team.
Dr Wong said, “This year, we celebrate the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR and also the fifth Anniversary of the Promulgation and Implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law. Today, we participated in the flag-raising ceremony on the campus, alongside fellow teachers and students, to collectively experience the sacred moment of the national flag being raised. This undoubtedly enhances the patriotic feelings of our teachers and students towards the country and Hong Kong, as well as fostering national awareness and identity. Such an event holds profound significance.”
Professor Chan said, “Each flag-raising ceremony contributes to strengthening the cohesion among teachers and students, inspiring enthusiasm for the development of our country, and encouraging collective efforts toward building a better Hong Kong and China.”
Professor Lee said, “The flag-raising ceremony is the most meaningful patriotic lesson. As members of Hong Kong's higher education community, we bear the responsibility of fostering future talents for the nation. EdUHK will continue to uphold the mission of cultivating virtue, and to nurture diverse talents with strong moral values, a profound sense of patriotism and national identity, as well as an international perspective.”
