EdUHK Congratulates Elite Athlete Student Lee Sze-wing on Winning Gold Student Chiu Hin-chun Serves as City’s Flag Bearer at 15th National Games Opening Ceremony

As the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China (National Games) prepare for its grand opening tonight (9 November), Lee Sze-wing, an elite athlete student from the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), has already secured Hong Kong's second gold medal and EdUHK's first-ever gold, in the women’s individual road cycling event, bringing glory to both EdUHK and the city.


Lee Sze-wing, a student in EdUHK's Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme, completed the Road Cycling (women's individual) race in 3 hours 19 minutes 54 seconds, successfully defending her title. She credited her victory to the unwavering support of her teammates and the strategic guidance of her coach, who communicated with her throughout the race via walkie-talkie.


EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin extended his heartfelt congratulations, stating, "Sze-wing's perseverance, hard work, and outstanding performance in both academics and sports are truly inspiring.  Her success will undoubtedly motivate the entire EdUHK community to pursue excellence in all endeavors."


The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) delegation will send 69 representatives to participate in the opening ceremony of the 15th National Games tonight. Among them is Chiu Hin-chun, another EdUHK elite athlete and a seasoned rower, who will serve the important role as a flag bearer for Team Hong Kong. Currently pursuing a Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management at EdUHK, Chiu will compete in the Men’s Lightweight Single Scull Final tomorrow, striving for a podium finish.


This year, more than 40 EdUHK student-athletes and alumni are competing across 13 events at the National Games, showcasing their talents in disciplines including cycling, rowing, badminton, table tennis, synchronized swimming, and more.
