Professor Xu Guandong is a distinguished academic leader, recognised for his pioneering work in applying data-driven and artificial intelligence technologies to address real-world challenges across fields such as education, e-commerce, finance, and healthcare. Previously, he served as a Full Professor at the School of Computer Science at the University of Technology Sydney. He is also a recipient of the prestigious National High-Level Overseas Talent Program.

As testament to his academic influence, Professor Xu has successfully secured more than AU$10 million in competitive research funding from prestigious national bodies and industries, including the Australian Research Council and the Natural Science Foundation of China. His research excellence has been further acknowledged through numerous awards from both academic and industrial institutions.

Professor Xu has made prolific scholarly contributions, with over 360 publications in leading international journals and conference proceedings in computer science. His significant academic impact is underscored by his consistent inclusion since 2021 in the Stanford University list of the world’s top 2% world scientists in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

 

Beyond his research output, Professor Xu plays an active role in the global academic community. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Human-centric Intelligent Systems (Springer) and serves as Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the World Wide Web Journal (Springer), in addition to holding editorial positions in several other international journals. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to engineering and computer science, he was elected as a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology in the United Kingdom in 2022, and as a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society in 2021.
