EdUHK Alumni Reunion in West Kowloon Celebrating the New Year with Culture and Connection
As the Year of the Horse approaches, festive spirit is filling the city. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) hosted an alumni reunion on 29 January at its newly established West Kowloon Study Centre (Museum Drive). Themed “A New Teaching Landmark: EdUHK Alumni Connecting in West Kowloon”, the event brought together more than a hundred alumni to celebrate the New Year with their alma mater at this new learning hub.
Organised by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office (AADO), the reunion welcomed alumni from different generations and faculties, symbolising unity and celebration. President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, Assistant Vice President (Institutional Effectiveness) Mr Edmond Kuo Hoi, and Director of Alumni Affairs and Development Ms Judy Kong Ka-wai attended, together with representatives from alumni associations and guest alumni.
In his address, Professor Lee said, “EdUHK has always been dedicated to nurturing diverse talent. Seeing our alumni shine in different fields truly reflects the University’s tradition of fostering outstanding individuals, which fills us with immense pride. We hope you will stay connected and actively participate in the University’s activities.” He added that the West Kowloon Study Centre, located in the heart of Hong Kong’s cultural district, symbolises EdUHK’s close ties with the city’s cultural fabric and provides a platform for staff and students to explore innovative projects. He noted that the reunion was not only a joyful occasion to welcome the New Year, but also a meaningful milestone in EdUHK’s expansion of educational facilities and future development.
The evening carried a strong artistic dimension. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble of The Education University of Hong Kong (LACOV) opened the night with melodious performances. Alumnus and paper craft master Mr Chan Lai-cheung demonstrated the traditional art of making the “Big-headed Buddha” figure, showcasing Hong Kong’s folk heritage. Grantham College of Education Past Students' Association Chairman Mr Lee Park-keong together with alumna and experienced visual arts teacher Ms Yeung Yau-lin presented Chinese calligraphy live, offering festive blessings through spring couplets. Together, music, craft and calligraphy created a rich cultural atmosphere that resonated with the artistic setting of the West Kowloon Cultural District.
During the event, AADO introduced the “Alumni Million Matching Scholarship Initiative”. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the EdUHK’s retitling, the University will match eligible alumni donations on a 1:1 basis until 30 September 2026, helping more students benefit and symbolising the passing of the torch to the next generation.
The reunion concluded amid laughter and good cheer. Looking ahead, AADO will continue to organise a wide range of alumni activities to foster exchanges among generations and faculties, strengthen bonds, and support the University’s growth.
