EdUHK Scholars Attend 7th Greater Bay Area Symposium on Teachers’ Ethics and Conduct
In today’s digital era, boosting teachers’ professional skills and ethics is becoming increasingly important. Five scholars from The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) —Mr Alan Chow Ping-yan, Honorary School Partnership Advisor; Dr Kevin Kam Wai-keung, Director of School Partnership and Field Experience; Dr Patrick Yun Pui-ho Executive Co-Director of the Institute of Professional and Vocational Education and Lifelong Learning (IPVELL); Dr Huang Xianhan, Associate Professor of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; and Dr Benjamin Li Yuet-man, Lecturer of the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies—took part in the 7th Greater Bay Area Symposium on Teachers’ Ethics and Conduct (the Symposium) and shared their professional insights.
The Symposium, themed “The Way of Teaching in the Era of Digital Intelligence: Reshaping Teachers’ Ethics under the Guidance of Educators’ Spirit”, was guided by the Department of Teacher Education at the Ministry of Education and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and hosted by South China Normal University (SCNU). It was held on 19 December 2025 at Dongguan Middle School Songshan Lake School and attracted nearly 500 education practitioners from across the Chinese Mainland.
In addition to the keynote speeches, the Symposium featured six separate panel discussions. Under the theme “The Connotation and Value Adherence of Educators’ Spirit in the Era of Digital Intelligence”, Mr Alan Chow delivered a presentation titled “Reflecting Today’s Teachers’ Ethics and Educators’ Spirit from the Perspective of Educational Equity”, exploring how educational equity informs teachers’ professional ethics and educators’ spirit.
Focusing on “Cultivating Teachers’ Digital Ethical Literacy and Professional Development”, Dr Kevin Kam shared on “Fostering Teachers’ Ethics in the Era of Digital Intelligence”, highlighting how EdUHK strengthens future teachers’ ethical formation through curriculum enhancement and experiential learning. Dr Huang Xianhan shared “Teachers’ Learning and Professional Development in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, emphasising the opportunities and importance of continuous professional growth in the AI era.
Dr Patrick Yun addressed the topic “Collaborative Mechanisms and Policy Synergy for Teachers’ Ethics Construction in the Greater Bay Area,” presenting “Teacher Learning and Professional Development in the Digital Intelligence Era.” His analysis focused on opportunities for regional collaboration and policy alignment.
Addressing “Challenges and Innovations in Evaluating Teachers’ Ethics in the Era of Digital Intelligence”, Dr Benjamin Li presented “Training on Teachers’ Ethics for Student Teachers in Hong Kong, China: Reflections from a Frontline Educator”, providing insights into practical experiences in teacher ethics training from the perspective of a frontline practitioner.
The Symposium not only facilitated the exchange of ideas but also laid an important foundation for collaborative educational development across the Greater Bay Area. Experts agreed that strengthening teachers’ ethics in the digital age requires cross‑regional cooperation, policy synergy, and resource sharing, which will inject new impetus into educational reform in the Greater Bay Area and the nation.
EdUHK will continue to leverage its professional expertise to advance innovation in teacher ethics education and nurture a new generation of educators who embody the spirit and professionalism of exemplary teachers.
