
Professor Glenn Stockwell is an internationally recognised scholar in applied linguistics and educational technology, with particular expertise in computer-assisted language learning. He holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Queensland and has held academic appointments in Australia, and most recently as Professor of Applied Linguistics at Waseda University in Japan, for 20 years. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Computer Assisted Language Learning, one of the leading international journals in the field.
Professor Stockwell’s research focuses on the integration of technology into language learning, artificial intelligence, the development of learner autonomy, and teacher professional development. He has published widely in these areas, including the recent monograph Mobile Assisted Language Learning: Concepts, Contexts & Challenges (Cambridge University Press, 2022), and the edited volume The Cambridge Handbook of Technology in Second Language Teaching and Learning (Cambridge University Press, 2025), both of which explore the evolving role of digital tools in language education.
At The Education University of Hong Kong, Professor Stockwell aims to further advance innovative, inclusive, and pedagogically sound applications of technology in language learning. He is committed to bridging research and practice through collaborative projects that enhance learning experiences and support evidence-based educational change.
