Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages [MATESOL]

Master of Arts in Chinese Studies (Language Education) offered by the Faculty of Humanities of EdUHK is specially designed for professionals like Chinese-language educators, editors, administrative executives and civil servants. The programme emphasises both teaching and research, and is recognised by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) of Hong Kong as one of the recognised programmes under the “Professional Development Incentive Grant Scheme for Language Teachers” and “Recognised Language Major Degree Programmes”.

The Master of Arts in Digital Humanities for Cultural Professionals, the only programme of its kind in Hong Kong, provides quality education to individuals who want to equip themselves with digital skills to work in the creative and cultural sectors in Hong Kong, and the Greater Bay Area. Building on the synergy between Cultural Studies and Information Technology, it allows students and professionals to develop skills in cultural management, digital technologies and (big) data analysis and to provide cutting-edge innovation in the cultural and creative industries.

MAGHE is an interdisciplinary programme and brings together courses in global history, the history of education and comparative education. It is geared towards a deeper understanding of the present state of education and will provide students a grounded perspective on the future. The programme aims at cultivating graduates with an awareness of the historical processes that forged and continue to shape modern education systems in East Asia and worldwide, and thereby equips students with professionally relevant academic knowledge. It can also serve as a stepping stone for doctoral studies.

With the elevation of China’s global influences and international status, the Chinese language has been attracting a vast number of learners, and is now one of the most attractive languages to learn. On the one hand, Chinese language teaching has been on a rapid rise in many countries; on the other hand, more foreign language speakers go to China to study Chinese language. It is predicted that there will be a steady growth of the demand for Chinese language teachers.
