EdUHK Signs MoU with Zhongshan Whampoa Education Group Schools to Foster Educational Integration and Exchange with the Chinese Mainland

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 14 January on its Tai Po campus with two schools under the Zhongshan Whampoa Education Group (the group): the Guangzhou Zhongshan Whampoa School for Hong Kong & Macao Students and the Foshan Zhongshan Whampoa Star-raise School for Hong Kong and Macao Students. The collaboration aims to strengthen educational integration and facilitate exchange between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, with close cooperation in areas such as teacher professional development and pathways for Chinese Mainland students to pursue further studies.

The MoU was signed by Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Academic) of EdUHK, and Dr Peggy Zhai, General Principal of Zhongshan Whampoa Schools for Hong Kong and Macao Students. Under the agreement, both parties will jointly promote initiatives, including the Chinese Mainland School Principal’s Nomination Scheme, field experience arrangement for EdUHK students, and teacher professional development programmes.

Professor Cheng emphasised EdUHK’s strong commitment to collaboration with Chinese Mainland schools. She noted that the MoU lays a solid foundation for future partnerships with the Guangzhou and Foshan schools, enhancing students’ practical experience and fostering professional exchange among teachers, thereby deepening integration between the education sectors of both regions. She believed that, in this era of rapid change, the partnership will enable both sides to embrace challenges and explore new possibilities for teaching and development.

Dr Zhai remarked that Zhongshan Whampoa Education Group has always upheld the principle of “Rooted in China, Oriented towards the world,” striving to provide high-quality education that integrates Chinese and Western pedagogy for students from Hong Kong, Macao, and beyond. She described the collaboration with EdUHK as a profound integration of academic excellence and educational practice, a convergence of wisdom from both sides. Looking ahead, she expressed hope for joint efforts in curriculum development, teacher training, and nurturing talent with cultural confidence and global vision for the Greater Bay Area and the world.

EdUHK representatives attending the signing ceremony were EdUHK School Partnership and Field Experience Director Dr Kevin Kam Wai-keung, Associate Director Ms Mandy Au Yuen-yee, and Professional Consultant Mr Langton Cheung Yung-pong; as well as School Partnership Advisor Mr Cheng King-leung.
