Dr Jess Luo Jiahui has been awarded the Editors’ Choice Award for 2025

Dr LUO, Jiahui Jess | Assistant Professor, Department of Education Policy and Leadership

Dr Jess Luo Jiahui, Assistant Professor at the Department of Education Policy and Leadership, The Education University of Hong Kong, has been awarded the Editors’ Choice Award for 2025 for her outstanding paper published in the international journal Teaching in Higher Education. Her paper, titled ‘How Does GenAI Affect Trust in Teacher-Student Relationships? Insights from Students’ Assessment Experiences’, was selected by the journal’s executive editorial team as the best among seven nominated papers.

Dr Luo's study addresses critical issues regarding the disparities in the use of generative AI tools between staff and students, highlighting the dynamics of power in higher education. She notes that while students are typically required to disclose their use of generative AI in their work, similar transparency is rarely expected from staff regarding their use of these tools. This lack of accountability poses significant challenges that need to be addressed, as the relationships between staff and students are fundamental to effective teaching.
