Enlightening Professionals – EdUHK Mentorship Scheme 2018-19 Kick-off Ceremony

As part of its efforts to promote the professional career development of its students, The Education University of Hong Kong(EdUHK) held a ceremony today (10 November) to kick off Enlightening Professionals – EdUHK Mentorship Scheme 2018-19, in which professionals from various sectors will provide professional guidance for over 300 students at the University – an all-time high for both mentors and participating students.

Entering its fifth consecutive year, the scheme has invited over 100 experienced practitioners from various industries to serve as mentors to provide professional guidance for students who major in Education or other disciplines. Mentors include school principals and experienced teachers, as well as professionals from business and non-profit organisations, providing students with a chance to explore and experience professional development outside the field of Education. For the first time, the scheme is open to EdUHK postgraduate students.

During the ceremony, Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, EdUHK President, thanked the mentors for their dedicated efforts. “In addition to being equipped with relevant knowledge,” he said, “it is important to develop positive interpersonal skills, lifelong learning and reflecting, and good communication and collaboration skills to become successful professionals in this rapidly evolving world.” He encouraged the students to stay humble and learn proactively from their mentors.

Jointly organised by EdUHK’s School Partnership and Field Experience Office and its Student Affairs Office, the scheme aims to provide abundant learning experiences for students, helping them better understand themselves and fulfil their potential. By connecting with mentors to engage in regular exchanges, the participating students will have an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the education profession and other sectors, and broaden their horizons. During the eight-month programme, the mentors will share their wealth of experience in life, learning and work, encouraging the students to reflect on their futures while guiding them in the planning process. The Enlightening Professionals – EdUHK Mentorship Scheme has benefited over 1,100 students to date.
