EdUHK Confers Honorary Doctorates

At its Congregation today (16 November), The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) conferred honorary doctorates on five distinguished individuals in recognition of their remarkable contributions to their fields in advancing education and social progress. Officiating at the ceremony was Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang, Council Chairman of EdUHK.
The recipients were (in alphabetical order of surname): 

 

  • Professor Edward Chen Kwan-yiu, GBS, CBE, JP – Doctor of Education, honoriscausa
  • Professor Christopher W. Day, FAcSS – Doctor of Education, honoris causa
  • Mr Lam Woon-kwong, GBS, JP – Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa
  • Dr Pang Yiu-kai, GBS, JP – Doctor of Education, honoris causa
  • Mr Joseph C. Tsai – Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa

Speaking at the Congregation, Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of EdUHK, paid tribute to the five Honorary Doctorate recipients, lauding their lifelong dedication and enormous contribution to their respective fields.

 

Professor Cheung also congratulated all 3,572 graduates on the successful completion of their studies, sharing with them the “4 Ps” in the face of possible challenges: be passionate, be proactive, be perseverant  and be positive, “The journey of life is full of ups and downs,” he said. “Whatever challenges you may face in this complex world, I encourage you to be passionate about life; be proactive in seeking out new knowledge; be perseverant in your quest for excellence; and be positive in the face of adversity.”

 

“As you move forward on your professional path, which combines lifelong learning and fresh perspectives to deliver meaningful contributions, your ties with the University remain steadfast. We welcome you to return to EdUHK to share your experience with us.” Professor Cheung concluded his speech wishing all graduates a fascinating career and a rewarding journey of continuous discovery.
