EdUHK Secures Record RGC Funding
Tops Education Research for 10 Years
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has achieved record results in the latest Research Grants Council (RGC) funding exercise, securing more than HK$32.9 million for 46 research projects under the 2026/27 General Research Fund (GRF) and Early Career Scheme (ECS). The newly funded projects further strengthen EdUHK’s expanding research portfolio across Education, Social Sciences, Psychology and Linguistics, Humanities and Arts, and other disciplines.
In Education, EdUHK continues to lead the local higher education sector, maintaining its top spot for the 10th consecutive year in both number of GRF projects and funding secured. A total of 18 awarded projects received HK$14.4 million, accounting for 40 per cent of all GRF projects awarded by the RGC. EdUHK also tied HKU for the highest number of ECS projects.
In Psychology and Linguistics, over 30 per cent of EdUHK’s submitted projects received funding under GRF and ECS, with success rates surpassing the sector-wide average. Under ECS, EdUHK came first in both the number of funded projects and total funding awarded.
Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Research and Development) of EdUHK, said the results have further enhanced EdUHK’s research portfolio. “I sincerely thank our colleagues for their enthusiasm in joining this year’s funding exercise, and I warmly congratulate the successful project teams. I am encouraged that our institutional submission rate has exceeded 80 per cent, which highlights a growing culture of research engagement within the University across both established areas of excellence and emerging disciplines. We will continue to promote high-impact research, deepen international collaborations, and enhance knowledge transfer to address emerging societal challenges and generate positive impact locally and globally.”
EdUHK also achieved success under the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS), with two projects receiving funding out of the 10 awarded:
- Professor Gu Mingyue, Associate Vice President (Research), for the project “‘Settling Body and Mind’: A Sociolinguistic Investigation of Identity Construction and Emotional Well-being amongst Skilled Migrants in Hong Kong”.
- Professor Chan Ka-shing, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education and Human Development, for the project “Identifying and Predicting 6-Year Trajectories of Autistic Children’s Symptoms and Their Parents’ Distress: A Growth Mixture Modelling and Machine Learning Study”.
As EdUHK celebrates the 10th anniversary of its retitling, these achievements reflect the University’s growth as an education-focused institution with diversified academic and research strengths, and increasing global recognition. Over the past year, EdUHK has risen 124 places to 406th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027, and ranked 7th worldwide and 2nd in Asia for Education in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. Recently, six of its scholars received funding under RGC’s Overseas Research Fellowship Scheme (ORFS), placing the University second among all local institutions.
