EdUHK Launches Honours College to Shape Tomorrow’s Leaders

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) today (31 March) announced the establishment of the EdUHK Honours College at its Inauguration cum Pledging Ceremony. As a flagship initiative under the University’s development blueprint “Education Futures”, the Honours College is dedicated to nurturing future-ready educators and professionals who excel academically, innovate boldly and embrace social responsibility.
The inaugural pilot cohort of 20 high-calibre students–both local and non-local talents–have distinguished themselves in fields ranging from artificial intelligence and entrepreneurship to music and archery, alongside outstanding academic performance. These rigorously selected students will receive privileged mentoring and internship placements, exclusive research training, as well as scholarships and sponsorships to support prestigious global exposure opportunities.
The ceremony was officiated by President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, and attended by Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Head of the Honours College Dr Li Wai-chin, Associate Heads of the Honours College, Professor Jiang Da and Dr Kevin Kam Wai-keung, and other members of the senior management.
In his welcoming remarks, Professor Lee hailed the establishment of the Honours College as a milestone in talent development. “A key priority of our Strategic Plan for 2025-31 is to cultivate future-ready educators and professionals. The Honours College embodies this vision, and we are grateful to our Council members and distinguished mentors for their commitment to nurturing our students into leaders with global perspectives and a strong sense of social responsibility in a rapidly changing world.”
The Honours College offers three transformative pathways:
- Pathway for Research, Innovation and Discovery Excellence (PRIDE) — Designed for high-achieving students, the PRIDE cultivates future academic leaders with creative thinking and leadership potential through advanced PRIDE project, personalised mentorship by distinguished scholars and experiences in interdisciplinary research.
- Emerging Leaders in Innovation, Technology, and Excellence – AI Pathway (ELITE-AI Pathway) — Focusing on AI and emerging technologies, the ELITE-AI Pathway nurtures students’ innovative thinking, leadership abilities, and a human-centered perspective on technology applications through interdisciplinary learning and a capstone project.
- Performance Analysts Transforming Horizons (PATH Academy) — Collaborating with professional sports organisations and integrating sports science, performance analysis and internships, the PATH Academy cultivates performance analysis specialists in football and rugby with a global perspective.
In addition to one-on-one advising from EdUHK academic supervisors, Honours College students will also gain access to a broad network of professional mentors from diverse sectors, including:
- Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan - Chairman of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, with decades of leadership in finance and public service, cultural heritage and sustainable development;
- Mr William Gee - Specialist in emerging technology and digital transformation, and a retired partner of PwC China and Hong Kong with extensive experience advising governments on the implementation of advance technologies;
- Dr Lam Ching-choi - Executive Council member of the HKSAR Government and Chief Executive Officer of Haven of Hope Christian Service, devoted to local public health policy and services;
- Dr Kevin Lau Kin-wah - a passionate entrepreneur in SME development, promoting talent development, vocational training and community inclusion;
- Ms Christina Maisenne Lee - Executive Director of Wofoo Social Enterprises, a champion of social innovation, character development and cross-sector collaboration who serves on multiple government boards and committees;
- Mr Leung Kwok-shing - Executive Director of Hok Yau Club and founder of “Hoops for Hope Basketball Asia”, which supports grassroots children through sports.
The inaugural pilot cohort for 2025/26 was formally inducted into the Honours College and robed during the ceremony led by the President and Vice Presidents. The 20 Honours College students then took an oath–witnessed by the officiating guests, senior management of the Honours College, professional mentors and supervisors–pledging to uphold professional ethics, devotion and responsibility, to strive for excellence in academic and personal development, and to actively serve and contribute to the community.
Professor Lee reminded students that the robes symbolise “a commitment–to learn with purpose, to lead with integrity, and to inspire by example”. The event successfully concluded with a group photo session and an informal reception that allowed professional mentors, supervisors and the Honours College students to network and converse.
