EdUHK Hosts NPC and NCCPPCC Talk Series 2025-26
The 8th Session: Patriotic Education and National Development

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently hosted the eighth session of the NPC and NCCPPCC Talk Series 2025-26 at its West Kowloon Study Centre (Museum Drive), featuring Ms Cally Kwong Mei-wan, Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress (NPC) as guest speaker on the theme “Patriotic Education and National Development”. The session was one of the key roundtable forums of the Patriotic Education Forum held on 6 and 7 May, with nearly 200 guests from the political, legal, education and academic sectors.

Ms Cally Kwong shared how her love for the country has inspired her commitment to educational philanthropy. To date, she has funded the construction of 57 schools across 10 provinces in Chinese Mainland, benefiting more than 700,000 students, and has sponsored over 20,000 underprivileged students to complete their studies. She has released more than 40 bestselling music albums and the patriotic theme song “Our Home: (《我們的家》) performed by Ms Kwong received the “Five-One Project” Award from the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC). Its Putonghua version (《祖國是我家》) has also been released and has been warmly received.

As a Hong Kong Deputy to both the 13th and 14th NPC, Ms Kwong presented in her keynote speech a number of proposals that she had submitted during NPC sessions. These included supporting the establishment of an “International AI Application and Compliance Centre” in Hong Kong, developing Hong Kong into the “ninth major centre”; strengthening the foundations of spiritual civilisation, and enhancing patriotic education in international schools to reinforce educational security, etc. She noted that the "15th Five-Year Plan" (2026–2030) carries important guiding significance, particularly with the Central Government emphasising the need to “strengthen the Four Consciousnesses” – maintaining political integrity, thinking in big-picture terms, following the leadership core, and keeping in alignment – alongside the principle of “upholding the Four Confidences” (in Path, Theory, System and Culture). These provide direction for the future in our study, work, and life planning.

Ms Kwong further noted that cultivating talent with a strong sense of national identity is essential to building the Greater Bay Area into a world-class bay area and advancing Hong Kong’s transition from stability to prosperity.

In the subsequent dialogue session, Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, exchanged views with Ms Kwong and several principals on topics including the educational significance of patriotic songs, the importance of Putonghua, and the relationship between religious belief and patriotism. Ms Kwong emphasises “kindness” and “love,” while national leaders must “love the people as their own children” to lead 1.4 billion citizens toward continuous growth and development.

The NPC and NCCPPCC Talk Series (2025-26) is organised by EdUHK’s School Partnership and Field Experience Office, and invites NPC and NCCPPCC members to EdUHK to share insights with staff and students on different professional fields.
