EdUHK Holds Award Presentation Ceremony for ‘Excellent Supporting Teacher Award’, ‘Award for Supporting Teachers’ Excellence in Professional Ethics’, and ‘Field Experience e-Portfolio Award’

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held an Award Presentation Ceremony for the Excellent Supporting Teacher Award, the Award for Supporting Teachers’ Excellence in Professional Ethics, and the Student Field Experience e-Portfolio Award on 7 May, on its Tai Po campus. On the same occasion, EdUHK and Qufu Normal University jointly hosted a seminar titled ‘Teachers’ Professional Ethics: Succession and Future’.

In alignment with its core mission of ‘Education Talent Virtue’, EdUHK is committed to nurturing educators who embody both professional competence and moral character. In his opening remarks, EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, emphasised that teachers serve both as knowledge providers and role models in the character development of students. Professor Lee expressed his gratitude to the principals, Link Teachers and Supporting Teachers of placement schools for their unfailing support and assistance in EdUHK’s field experience activities, furthering the joint effort to cultivate pre-service teachers and promote teacher professional ethics education in Hong Kong.

The Excellent Supporting Teacher Nomination Scheme was established in 2014/15. It recognises the outstanding guidance and support provided by supporting teachers to EdUHK students throughout their field experience. In leading by example, as well as sharing invaluable teaching experience and guiding the professional growth of EdUHK students, these Supporting Teachers truly embody the principle of ‘life on life’ and lay a solid foundation for their journey towards becoming professional educators. Over 140 Supporting Teachers were awarded.

Under the Scheme, EdUHK introduced the Award for Supporting Teachers’ Excellence in Professional Ethics to honour teachers who uphold professional standards, demonstrate noble character, and dedicate themselves to nurturing virtue. Thirty teachers received awards. For the complete list of awardees, please refer to the scheme booklet.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the Student Field Experience e-Portfolio Award which recognises, encourages and rewards students’ outstanding achievements and their in-depth reflections on teachers’ professional ethics during the block practice. This year, a total of 17 students received the award. Please refer to the event brochure for the list of awardees.

EdUHK will continue to strengthen teacher professionalism, promote teacher professional ethics and values education, and nurture students to become outstanding citizens who can contribute to society, the country and the world.
