EdUHK Announces Strategic Plan 2025–2031 A Blueprint for 'Education Futures' Across Four Key Areas
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) announced its Strategic Plan 2025–2031 today (22 May), setting out its direction for the next six years. The new plan focuses on the theme of 'Education Futures', outlining a vision and blueprint for 2025 to 2031, to nurture students with diverse skills, enabling them to tackle the challenges and seize opportunities in an ever-changing world amidst the digital era.
EdUHK held a press conference today under the theme 'EdUHK Strategy & Development: Achievements & Goals'. The event was attended by President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, and other members of the University’s management. They shared EdUHK’s achievements and outlined its vision and blueprint for the next six years.
The Strategic Plan focuses on a forward-looking vision of education, emphasising innovation, sustainability and collaboration. The plan highlights four key areas:
1. Nurturing Future-ready Educators and Talents with Positive Values and Skills for Tomorrow
2. Achieving a Tangible Impact and Benefitting the World through Breakthroughs in Research and Knowledge Sharing and Transfer
3. Contributing to Sustainable Development
4. University Advancement via Internationalisation and Wider Engagement with Stakeholders
Professor John Lee Chi-Kin elaborated on EdUHK's strategic initiatives in response to China’s Education Powerhouse Development Plan (2024-2035). These initiatives include strengthening the cultivation of top-tier innovative talents, enhancing the country’s strategic scientific and technological capabilities, improving the efficiency of technology transfer, and deepening comprehensive reforms in higher education.
“Hong Kong’s higher education sector is facing significant external and internal challenges. EdUHK is committed to advancing research and development, while nurturing talents equipped with innovative thinking and diverse skill sets. We aim to cultivate educators and professionals who will contribute to Hong Kong and the nation’s high-quality development and establishment of an education powerhouse,” he said.
The University’s three vice presidents also shared EdUHK’s recent achievements and developments during the press conference. In terms of academic management, Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung, noted that the Quality Assurance Council under the University Grants Committee had recently published a Quality Audit of EdUHK. The report commended EdUHK for maintaining rigorous academic standards and continuously enhancing the quality of learning and teaching. The audit results are highly encouraging.
In terms of international rankings and innovation, Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin highlighted the most-recently released QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 results, in which Education at EdUHK ranked 12th globally, 4th in Asia, and 2nd in Hong Kong, reaffirming EdUHK’s internationally recognised expertise in the subject discipline. Additionally, EdUHK won nine awards at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva held last month. The winning projects span interdisciplinary research areas, including artificial intelligence, biomaterials, neuroscience, sports and educational technology. These achievements demonstrate EdUHK’s growing strength in interdisciplinary research and innovation, as well as its continued international recognition in research excellence and impact.
Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho introduced new developments in campus facilities and construction. He announced that EdUHK’s new study centre at the Xiqu Centre in the West Kowloon Cultural District will officially open on 1 September this year. This collaboration with the West Kowloon Cultural District will foster interdisciplinary exchanges between education and the arts, inspire interactive thinking and innovative ideas, and strengthen EdUHK’s position in culture and arts education.
