73 EdUHK Scholars Named Among World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University
Setting a New Record
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is pleased to announce that 73 scholars have been listed in the World’s Top 2% Scientists 2026 compiled by Stanford University, representing an increase of over 30% compared to last year and marking a new record high. Among them, 41 scholars were ranked within the world’s top 1%, underscoring the University’s growing research strength, academic excellence and international recognition.
The EdUHK scholars named in the list span 21 disciplines, with more than half (37 scholars) specialising in education. Other fields include linguistics, artificial intelligence and image processing, environmental science, music, forestry, rehabilitation sciences, geriatrics, and neurology, reflecting EdUHK’s growing research strengths beyond education and its expanding impact across a diverse range of interdisciplinary areas.
Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, said he is particularly excited that this recognition comes at a meaningful moment as the University celebrates the 10th anniversary of its retitling. “Over the past decade, we have strived to enhance our global impact through talent development and the pursuit of academic and research excellence, and I am delighted to see these efforts reflected in the growing international recognition received by both our scholars and the University. Our continued progress in global rankings and strong performance in national and international competitions would not have been possible without the contributions of our faculty and these world class scholars. Their diverse expertise and perspectives inspire new research directions, create broader learning and exchange opportunities for our students, and strengthen Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as a global education hub and our country’s development as a leading country in education. I look forward to welcoming even more outstanding scholars to EdUHK, and work with us to advance academic innovation and research excellence, further enhancing the University's local, national and global impact.”
At the outset of the 2026/27 academic year, EdUHK already welcomed 15 distinguished professors from leading universities in Europe and Asia. Their appointments cover a wide spectrum of disciplines, including education, social sciences, health and sport sciences, technology, inclusive education, psychology, and interdisciplinary studies. This new cohort brings fresh momentum to the University’s academic community and further enhances its international presence. In alignment with EdUHK’s Strategic Plan 2025–2031, their expertise will drive interdisciplinary research and foster global collaboration. These contributions will reinforce the University’s role in education, humanities, social sciences research, and public service, while consolidating its reputation in the regional and global academic arena.
The annual list is compiled by a research team at Stanford University based on Scopus citation data, taking into account factors such as citation counts, co-authorship adjustments, and author ranking. It emphasises academic impact rather than sheer volume of publications.
