Student Solomon Au Yeung Named Young Poet by National Periodical

 

Solomon Au Yeung Hok-him, a part-time student in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary) programme at The Education University of Hong Kong, was recently named one of 15 Young Poets by the poetry periodical Shikan* (《诗刊》) in mainland China.

 

The only Young Poet from Hong Kong, Au Yeung will attend the 34th Session of the Youth Poetry Meeting# (第三十四屆“青春詩會”), hosted by Shikan, which will be held in Anhui, China, this September. Meanwhile, Au Yeung has been invited to participate in the selection panel for another national poetry contest in the Mainland this year (2018年全國「大成詩社杯」青少年徵文大賽).

 

Au Yeung is currently teaching at The Church of Christ in China Tai O Primary School, on Lantau Island, and is pursuing a Master’s degree in education at the University of Oxford. Au Yeung said he feels honoured and grateful for the numerous learning opportunities that have opened up a new world for him to explore.

 

*Shikan, published since 1957, is a national-level periodical, featuring contemporary poetry, and the latest news and commentary in the poetry arena.

 

#The Youth Poetry Meeting, first held in 1980, is an annual gathering, which provides a platform for selected young poets in mainland China and nearby regions to exchange and learn from each other.
