EdUHK Team Awarded Championship in Virtual Reality Game Design Competition


 

 

Dr Lee Cheng, Assistant Professor at the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), and his team, were named Open Division Champions in the Hong Kong VR Rehabilitation Game Design Competition 2020 in February 2021.

 

The team, led by Dr Cheng, comprised Miss Jasman Pang Wing-yan, Research Assistant at CCA, and Chan Hon-sum, a Year 4 student of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Creative Arts and Culture (Music) programme. They created an innovative virtual reality game called “Brainland”, which features various room designs, such as an art room, kitchen, restroom, backyard, to enable the elderly and people with disabilities to take part in rehabilitation through sensory motor training, cognitive training, social adaption skills training and emotion management.

 

Co-organised by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre Limited, the Competition aimed at enhancing the public and students’ understanding of elderly and disabled people’s needs, improving the quality of life of the needy through virtual reality rehabilitation training, and promoting social inclusion.
