EdUHK Sends Five Elite Athletes to the FISU Summer World University Games

The 32nd Summer World University Games (the Games) is being held in the Rhine-Ruhr region of Germany, from 16 to 27 July. The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) sends five elite athletes to the Games, accompanied by athletics coach Mr Chang Yu-ho, gymnastics coach and alumnus Mr Shek Wai-hung, as well as Mr Yong Chi-fung, Student Development Manager (Sports Development) from the Student Affairs Office.   


The flag presentation ceremony for the Hong Kong, China delegation to the Games was held on 8 July, at which the Acting Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr Raistlin Lau Chun, and President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, Mr Timothy Fok Tsun-ting presented the regional flag of HKSAR to the delegation. Dr Kevin Kam Wai-keung, Director of School Partnership and Field Experience at EdUHK and other representatives were in attendance. 


The Summer World University Games is the world’s second-largest multi-sport event, following only the Olympics. Top student-athletes from over 150 countries and regions will compete in 18 different sports. 


The Hong Kong, China delegation consists of 109 members, including 75 athletes competing in 10 events: archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, rowing, taekwondo, tennis, fencing, swimming and table tennis. The first group of delegation members departed for Germany on 14 July.
