EdUHK Hosts International Symposium on Personal Finance

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held an International Symposium on Personal Finance on 15 April, to promote understanding and practice of the importance of personal finance by integrating diverse perspectives. The event gathered distinguished scholars and practitioners from leading institutions worldwide, supported by the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance.

Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, gave a welcome address via video, while Professor Li Wai Keung, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (FLASS), and Dr Fox Hu Zhiyong, Acting Head of Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies (SSPS), also greeted participants.

In a keynote speech, Professor Pablo Brañas Garza, Professor of Economics and Director of the Loyola Behavioural Lab at the Universidad Loyola Andalucía in Spain, gave an engaging presentation entitled ‘Developmental Meritocracy: Evidence from Experiments in the Lab’. Professor Steven Dellaportas, Professor of Accounting at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, gave a presentation on the theme of ‘Committing Fraud of Professionals: Stories from Jail’.

During the thematic discussion session, international scholars from universities in Beijing, Nanjing, Hong Kong and Australia engaged in in-depth academic discussions across key areas, including financial literacy, consumer behaviour, investor protection and financial regulation.

As a pioneer in financial education with comprehensive Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in Personal Finance, the EdUHK is uniquely positioned to bridge academic research with practical financial education. This Symposium serves as an important platform for international collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of effective strategies to enhance financial capability globally. The event was conducted in a hybrid mode, attracting staff members, students from EdUHK, and members of the public.
