EdUHK Highlights Sustainable Education Leadership at GSDC 2026
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) showcased its leadership in sustainable education and knowledge transfer at the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia, from 22–25 June.
Bringing together nearly 5,000 higher education leaders, policymakers, and sustainability experts, the congress provided a global platform to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a track partner for “Education, Gender and Inequality,” EdUHK contributed to key discussions on the future of education and social impact.
EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin delivered a keynote address on reimagining education for a sustainable future, while Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Vice President (Research and Development), moderated a panel discussion featuring Professor Stephen Chiu Wing-kai, Chair Professor of Sociology, on the role of lifelong learning in driving educational excellence and societal progress. Dr Michelle Cheng Wing-tung, Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, also presented an SDG showcase on experiential learning and sustainable citizenship.
The University further demonstrated its commitment to knowledge transfer through an exhibition booth featuring projects that translate research and educational expertise into practical solutions for communities.
A group of Student Ambassadors from the SDG × Experiential Learning Co-Curriculum Project, led by Dr Michelle Cheng and Dr Xiong Weiyan, also attended the congress as part of a study tour. Through workshops, panel discussions and the Global Student Assembly, students gained valuable international exposure and explored how higher education can contribute to sustainable development and future student leadership.
The congress also coincided with a significant institutional achievement. EdUHK was ranked 2nd in the world for SDG 4 (Quality Education) in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2026, placing in the 101–200 band globally and 6th in Hong Kong overall.
Through its academic contributions, student engagement and international partnerships, EdUHK's participation in GSDC 2026 demonstrated how quality education and knowledge transfer can advance sustainable development on a global scale.
