Record High in EdUHK’s Pledged Donations and Scholarships

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a reception today (16 March) to express its gratitude to donors for their unfailing support during the 2015-16 academic year with over HK$164 million pledged, the best-ever annual fundraising result for the University.

On the same occasion, scholarships were presented to students with outstanding academic achievements, leadership, service records and performance in other areas. Nearly 800 scholarships valued at approximately $21 million will be awarded this year – a record high in terms of the total scholarship amount.

Addressing the ceremony was Guest of Honour, Chief Secretary for Administration Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung. Also in attendance were Secretary for the Environment Mr Wong Kam-sing and over 300 friends and supporters of the University, including leading figures from the business and education sectors, as well as staff and scholarship recipients.

Proposing a vote of thanks to all the supporters of the University, Council Chairman Dr Pang Yiu-kai said, “Without their unfailing support, EdUHK would not have been able to fulfil its unique role as a leading higher education institution with a focus on teacher education and related disciplines to nurture and shape the future generations”.

EdUHK President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung congratulated the scholarship recipients on their extraordinary achievements, and appealed to the donors for their continual support. “Your support goes a long way towards enriching the learning experiences of our students, facilitating knowledge transfer and allowing our emerging and senior academics to embark on new research projects,” he said.

The EdUHK Foundation is a high-level platform established in December 2014 with the prime objective of engaging various sectors of the community to advance the quality of teacher education, learning and teaching, and research at the University.
