Interviews on the AI & Education Futures: Professor Kong Siu-cheung

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to mature, education at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels must adapt accordingly. Professor Kong Siu-cheung, Director of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Competency Education Centre of The Education University of Hong Kong, believes that AI education should start with students’ interests, focusing on igniting their motivation to learn. Students should progressively develop their ability to use AI for learning – making tools an aid rather than a dependency. At the same time, students must be trained in independent thinking, communication and problem-solving skills, while cultivating positive values and ethical awareness.

In the future, AI will offer more possibilities for both students and teachers. However, it is crucial to carefully guide students in using these tools responsibly to foster authentic learning and growth.
