Marking the beginning of the New Year, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the National Flag Raising Ceremony on its Tai Po campus this morning (1 January).

Attending the ceremony were Mr Liu Maozhou, Inspector of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR (LOCPG); Dr Chen Zhilu, Deputy Division Director of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the LOCPG; and EdUHK Council members, senior management, staff and students. During the ceremony, the national, regional and university flags were raised by a team made up of EdUHK students.

EdUHK Deputy Council Chairman Dr Terence Chan Ho-wah said, “2024 is a very special year, as it marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as the 30th anniversary of EdUHK. I hope that during these two new eras, under the leadership of President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, our students can become pillars of the country, helping Hong Kong tell the stories of China well, while also effectively relating the stories of EdUHK.”

Treasurer of the Council Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum said, “The year 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of EdUHK. I firmly believe that the University will continue to promote professional ethics among teachers, and nurture many more talented and virtuous individuals for the betterment of Hong Kong, our country, and the world.”

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin said, “The solemn flag-raising ceremony helps cultivate the national identity of teachers and students, and enhance their sense of belonging to the country, as well as their patriotism and affection for Hong Kong.”

EdUHK conducts a flag-raising ceremony every Monday and on important dates, including New Year’s Day, HKSAR Establishment Day, National Day and the school commencement day.
