EdUHK Holds New Year’s National Flag-raising Ceremony to Mark the Beginning of 2026

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a New Year national flag-raising ceremony this morning (1 January) at its Tai Po campus, heralding the start of 2026.

Attending the ceremony were EdUHK Deputy Council Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah, Treasurer Ms Imma Ling Kit-sum, President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, together with Council members, senior management, staff, students, and alumni. The flag raising ceremony was conducted by a team of EdUHK students. As the national flag ascended, participants stood in solemn respect, singing the national anthem in unison while fixing their gaze upon it.

Professor Chan said, “2026 marks the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of EdUHK, a significant milestone in our journey. As a young and vibrant university, we remain committed to nurturing outstanding teachers and diverse talent, actively driving social progress, and contributing to the development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as an international education hub.”

Professor Lee said, “As EdUHK approaches its 10th Anniversary, a number of new facilities have come into service, including the new academic building at the Tai Po campus, the West Kowloon Study Centre (Austin Road) and the West Kowloon Study Centre (Museum Drive) at the Xiqu Centre and M+ Building respectively. In line with our strategic theme of “Education Futures, Diverse Talents,” these facilities will provide students with an enhanced learning and research environment, foster interdisciplinary academic development, and reinforce collaboration with different sectors.”

EdUHK has always attached great importance to national education, holding flag-raising ceremonies on school days and significant occasions—including New Year’s Day, National Security Education Day, the Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR, National Day, and the first day of the academic year—to foster students’ sense of national identity and deepen emotional ties with the motherland.
