EdUHK Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony to Kick Off the New Academic Year
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the Academic Year Inauguration cum Flag Raising Ceremony on its Tai Po campus today (1 September). Attended by over 1,000 new students and teachers, the event marked the commencement of the new academic year, advancing the goal of ‘Education Futures, Diverse Talent’.
Officiating at the Ceremony were EdUHK Deputy Council Chairman Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah; President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin; Vice President (Academic) Professor May Cheng May-hung; Vice President (Research and Development) Professor Chetwyn Chan Che-hin; Vice President (Administration) Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, Associate Vice Presidents, Assistant Vice Presidents, Deans and Department Heads of EdUHK.
The flag-raising ceremony was conducted by a team comprising students from EdUHK and EdUHK Jockey Club Primary School. Guests and students paid tribute by singing the national anthem together.
Professor Terence Chan Ho-wah expressed the hope that staff and students at EdUHK would develop a stronger sense of national identity through participating in the flag-raising ceremony. “This year marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Through participation in this ceremony, our esteemed faculty and students will cultivate a sense of national pride – remembering history, honouring martyrs, cherishing peace, and creating a great future,” he said.
Professor John Lee Chi-Kin congratulated and welcomed all new students to the EdUHK community in his welcome remarks. “We are approaching the 10th anniversary of the University’s re-titling this year. With the commissioning of the new academic building on the Tai Po campus and the EdUHK West Kowloon Study Centre (Austin Road) at the Xiqu Centre, the University remains committed to providing high-quality learning environments for our students, nurturing them with innovative thinking and diverse skills, and continuing to enhance teacher ethics education. Upholding the core mission of ‘Education, Talent, Virtue’, the University will work hand in hand to shape ‘Education Futures’, and contribute to the development of Hong Kong SAR, national progress and the building of a strong nation in education,” he said.
