EdUHK and Cyberport Sign MOU to Forge Strategic Partnership
To drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and talent development

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today (6 November) to collaborate in advancing innovation, entrepreneurship and talent development. This partnership is designed to strengthen the ecosystem for innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship development; translate university-driven research into real-world applications; and establish a technology talent pool in Hong Kong.

The signing ceremony took place at “Cyberport Venture Capital Forum 2025”, witnessed by Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Dr David Wong Yau-kar, EdUHK Council Chairman, and Mr Simon Chan Sai-ming, Chairman of Cyberport. The MoU was signed by Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, and Dr Rocky Cheng, CEO of Cyberport. This strategic partnership represents a pivotal step in bridging academia and industry, benefiting students, start-ups, and the wider community.

As the first key initiative under this collaboration, EdUHK and Cyberport are exploring the launch of micro-credential programmes that integrate theory, practice, and interactive elements, while offering real-world application experiences. The courses will combine EdUHK’s research expertise with Cyberport’s practical case studies. In the initial phase, five courses are targeted for rollout within six months, with plans to expand to ten within the first year.

Under the agreement, EdUHK and Cyberport will also work together to:

  • Encourage collaboration between EdUHK faculties, students and Cyberport’s network of technology firms to apply research outcomes that benefit Hong Kong’s digital-technology ecosystem;
  • Support start-ups and foster entrepreneurship, focusing on areas such as Educational Technology, Art Technology, and Digital Technology, while also promoting talent pool development and life-long learning;
  • Provide technical insights into the latest technology and offer technical guidance on emerging technologies to drive innovative solutions;
  • Share entrepreneurship and talent development through joint initiatives, training programmes, and industry projects;
  • Provide EdUHK students and start-ups with access to Cyberport’s resources, mentorship, and entrepreneurship support, promoting youth and talent development in Hong Kong.

Dr David Wong Yau-kar, EdUHK Council Chairman, said, “This partnership with Cyberport underscores our commitment to nurturing our students to be future-ready talent through internship and problem-based projects. By bridging academia and industry, we join hands to deliver talent development training and enhance AI literacy through the launch of micro-credential courses. We believed that the intellectual property generated and the commercialisation activities will transform our research into real-world impact. These initiatives will create new opportunities for our students, contribute to the development of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China’s education technology and innovation landscape, and support the growth of talent pool.”

Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, stated: “The National 15th Five-Year Plan underscores the acceleration of high-level technological self-reliance and strength, alongside the advancement of education, science and technology, talent development, and the construction of a digital China. The HKSAR Government is also actively fostering collaboration across government, industry, academia, research, and investment sectors.

Cyberport is Hong Kong’s digital tech hub and AI accelerator, gathering over 2,300 companies and connecting a vast network of investors and industry players. It supports startup growth, facilitates the commercialization of research outcomes, and nurtures innovation and technology talent.

EdUHK brings distinctive strengths in teacher education and amplifies talent development by cultivating future educators. This collaboration exemplifies both parties’ commitment to advancing the national and HKSAR Government’s innovation and technology agenda, jointly building a more vibrant talent pool and digital ecosystem.”
