EdUHK 30th Anniversary Walkathon Fundraising & Education Day

The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held the 30th Anniversary Walkathon Fundraising & Education Day today (January 27), with around 1,000 people taking part, including EdUHK staff, students, alumni, primary and secondary school teachers and students, enterprises and members of the general public. The aim of the event was to support the development of EdUHK, and education projects on teacher morality training, STEAM education and SEN education.

The Walkathon was started by Dr Terence Chan Ho-wah, Deputy Chairman of the Council of EdUHK, and the course took participants from the Amphitheatre at the Tai Po Waterfront Park to the Tolo Corner.  Alumni Mr Wong Kam-po and Ms Yip Pui-yin were invited to serve as the Walkathon Ambassadors.

Different attractions were set up along the route, including Augmented Reality (AR) displays designed by the staff of EdUHK, featuring a photo prop frame, and a Velcro display board.

Before starting the Walkathon, Dr Chan said that the development of EdUHK followed the establishment and continued development of the five education colleges, and has nurtured generations of elite educators. He hopes that the core values of EdUHK—“Education Talent Virtue” (育才弘教 立德樹人)— can be passed on and help foster the continued development of education.

EdUHK President Professor John Lee Chi-Kin expressed his gratitude for the unfailing support from society. “We need to grasp the opportunities to foster educational development. The support from teachers, students, alumni, and members of society is our driving force. I hope that everyone will uphold EdUHK's core mission and spirit – as demonstrated in the walkathon – continually progress, and foster positive energy.”

During the opening ceremony, Mr Clement Woo Kin-man, Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, shared his experience in promoting youth work over the years and his long-term service to the Tai Po area, as well as his close ties with EdUHK. He encouraged the students to learn more about Chinese history and fine traditional culture, and looked forward to the co-operation between the education sector and the community in building Hong Kong and contributing to the country. Hong Kong will definitely have a better tomorrow!
