Ministry of Education Delegation Visits EdUHK to Promote Future Teacher Training Initiatives
A delegation from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 22 October 2025, engaging in in-depth discussions with the University's senior management. They shared the latest educational policies and insights into global education development, with the goal of strengthening cooperation and interaction regarding education.
Led by Mr Yu Weiyue, Director General of the Department of Teacher Education at the Ministry of Education, the delegation included Ms Deng Hang, Director of the Teacher Ethical Conduct Division, and Mr Wang Zhijie, Deputy Director of the Teacher Ethical Conduct Division. Also present were Professor Wang Hong, Dean of the Education Faculty at the South China Normal University, along with representatives from the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR.
The University warmly welcomed the delegation. Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, recorded a video message to greet the delegation and introduce the University’s latest initiatives and developments. The exchange session was hosted by Professor May Cheng May-hung, Vice President (Academic), and Dr Tom Fong Wing-ho, Vice President (Administration), along with other members of EdUHK senior management. The atmosphere was friendly and collaborative, fostering deeper cooperation and advancing the development of future teacher training.
During the meeting, Director General Yu praised EdUHK’s strong administrative capabilities and its positive learning environment. He highlighted Hong Kong's unique geographical advantage as a vital connector between China and the world, emphasising the importance the Ministry places on Hong Kong’s educational development. Mr Yu noted that the future of global education will increasingly focus on innovation and integration. He shared achievements in nationwide STEM education promotion and teacher reform efforts, expressing hope that EdUHK will take a leading role in teacher education in the future.
Director General Yu specifically commended the University's efforts in patriotic education, national security education, Chinese culture education, particularly pioneering the ‘New Six Arts’ Curriculum, and promoting educational exchanges and collaborations with 'Belt and Road' countries. He also stressed the importance of cultivating teachers and fostering talent under the framework of patriotic education, while lauding the University's extensive work in teacher development and support.
Additionally, Director General Yu highlighted Professor Lee’s dual roles as a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and as University President, noting that these positions carry distinctive and significant value in aligning the University’s initiatives with the Central Government’s educational policies. He assured the Ministry of Education would continue to fully support EdUHK’s efforts to promote high-quality educational development.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the University’s Future Classrooms and STEM Innovation Hub, where they explored innovative research and practices in educational technology, artificial intelligence in education, and related initiatives.
This visit further consolidates the achievement of educational exchanges and collaboration. Together, we will uphold the spirit of educators to strengthen the teaching force, jointly deepen teacher education and professional development, foster educational innovation, and nurture future talents with a global perspective and strong sense of patriotism.
