EdUHK Conducts First MOOC on Recitation

The Education University of Hong Kong held its first ever Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), entitled “The techniques of Recitation”, in July and August 2021.

Co-organised by the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) and the Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology (LTTC), the course was divided into basic and advanced units. Held from 12 July to 7 August, the basic unit attracted 334 participants to learn more about the topic through videos, quizzes, reflection activities and a discussion forum. Around 60 participants attended the advanced unit on 14 and 21 August, which allowed them to practise recitations under peer observation and be evaluated by the course instructor, Professor Si Chung-mou.

Professor Si said that the course primarily targeted Chinese language teachers, but also attracted participation from secondary school students, retirees, and teachers from the mainland, Taiwan, Macau, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

Professor Kong Siu-cheung, Director of LTTC, said that a survey indicated that the programme received positive feedback from the participants. As well as commending the course’s content, they were also grateful for the professionalism and dedicated work of the instructor. They hoped that the University will organise similar activities to promote the art of recitation and the Chinese culture in the future. For further details, please visit the CHL website
